Applied Field Ecology
Spring 2011
Instructor: Dr. Michael Ross
The course objectives are:
- to learn in a hands-on way about the major south Florida ecosystems and their important management issues, and
- to gain experience with sampling strategy, field methods, and effective interpretation and reporting of ecological data for management and scientific purposes; and
- to successfully carry out a group project contributing to existing knowledge of the landscape ecology of a portion of Miami-Dade County.
In August 2011, Mike Ross gave a presentation at the Ecological Society of America meeting in Austin, TX on "Humanized tree assemblages in a barrier island landscape: Key Biscayne, Florida"

Resulted in many undergraduate research papers and presentations made to the class covering a wide range of relevant topics including: Urban Gardens, Green Roofs, Residential Solar Electricity Usage, Making Miami more Bicycle Friendly, Solid Waste Efficiency, etc.
